Sonic ‘06 Rewrite Zine

Lucente Project is planned to be a free multimedia project which rewrites the story of Sonic '06 into a "series" format with approximately 20+ "episodes". Each "episode" will be written and/or illustrated by a different contributor, with a story director to oversee the "series" to spot major continuity mistakes.For this project, the CQC team would like to focus on telling a story which is not only fun to read, but also fun for every contributor to work on.

Chao Sanctuary aims to tickle your nostalgia in many ways while still providing a fresh experience to chao raising. It'll be a visual novel with an engaging story while also providing the classic chao care points, albeit with a little twist:
You're opening your own chao garden!Talaka tackles the role of director for this game project. He's pitched a mobile version of the game before in 2023, but he reworked all the concepts from the ground up, removing the mobile focus and going back to old console vibes. His biggest wish is to develop this as a NDS (Nintendo DS) game (NDS developers hit him up), but since that is out of his capabilities, think of this more as a GBA-esque (GameBoyAdvance) title instead (akin to Sonic Battle).

Pre-Production

As Lucente Project is planned to be a experimental cohesive story, the zine needs a pre-production of at least 6 months to help decide the story and character designs before contributors can work on the project. Pre-production will decide crucial things, such as how many episodes long the project will be, the basic story beats, and divergent details from the original story.

What is a Zine?

A zine is, in fandom spaces, a collaborative effort of creatives to make a sort of art collection/book! The word “zine” comes from “magazine”. Everyone working on the project gets to make something for one (or more) of the pages of this zine!Every step will be explained within the project, and you can always talk to a mod if you are unsure of what you have to do or if you are doing things right. It’s always best to speak up if you don’t understand, because it makes things a lot less stressful for everyone involved!

Content Guidelines

Ships are NOT allowed in CQC projects unless stated otherwise.

CQC projects aim to focus on non-romantic relationships between characters (Family, friendships, enemies, rivalry, work-related, etc.).
"Can be read as platonic or romantic" style stories are allowed

If you still want to create ship content, we highly encourage you to organise and host your own Zine!

the best thing about zines is finding your community and working together to make something you all enjoy! There have been many zines around Sonic ships, and CQC would love to see more organised and enjoyed by the community.

Guidelines for OC and AU content will vary depending on the project.
If OCs and AUs fit with the theme of a project, they will be allowed or even be encouraged.

A project will have tailored rules for it's theme so check the project page!

If a project is OC themed then all types of OCs are welcome.

there are no cringe characters!! We’d love to see your angel/demon hybrid, the Shadows decendant, or Silvers long lost brother! The only rules are that they have to be made for the greater sonic universe and are not a fankid (see shipping guidelines).

Headcanons and Fanon are allowed in CQC projects unless stated otherwise

Headcanons such as characters being trans, related, or having altered design elements are all welcome. As well as Fannons such as mobian paws being indecent, or Silvers hand/forehead markings.

Any art style and medium is allowed in CQC projects

CQC is about the creativity of the Sonic community, so we welcome all different styles and types of art.
The only rule is that any photos, illustrations, or scans have to be clean and of a high quality (at least 2475 x 3500px)

Character redesigns are also allowed as long as the original character is still recognisable (see headcannonc and Fannon)

18+ and explicit material is NOT allowed in CQC Projects.

CQC does not plan to do any zines with 18+ content for the foreseeable future. However content of works created by contributors outside of a CQC does not affect your application to, or standing in, a project.

CQC projects won’t delve into darker topics or more mature themes than a typical Sonic story unless stated otherwise.

Content of works created outside of a project will not affect your application.
Only work submitted to a project will have to follow our guidelines.

Anything, as long as we can distribute it digitally somehow!We've had 2D-Live models, Blender Models, Cross Stich Patterns, Board Games, Photographs, Music, Animations, and MORE!!

What is...?

PAGE ARTFull Illustration with characters interacting with their environment.
SPOT ARTArt that is an accompany-illustration for a fanfic. It can either be a sketch, a character drawing, etc. Whatever you want really, as long as it fits to the writing.
CONCEPT ARTSketches that are meant to convey an idea through visuals, especially trying to explain certain mechanisms etc.
ASSET ARTSmall and quick drawings which can be doodles, sketches, or characters to use as space fillers, or in social media posts.
MERCHStuff that other people can use! Physical merch would be stickers, prints, postcards, etc. Digital merch would be icons, banners, wallpapers, page dolls etc.

※ It will always be specified in the application form what kind of merch is needed for the project!

  • art blogs on Tumblr (or Artstation/Cara/other site) are okay, as long as there are no irrelevant text posts.

  • you can use a Google Drive folder (make sure that link sharing is ENABLED)!
    *this option is recommended if you apply for multiple types of art roles at the same time!

  • you could also use a custom website host, like Carrd, if you're thinking about applying to more projects like this in the future.

  • Include examples of the quality we can expect you to deliver for the zine.

  • Make sure that the type of drawings (full illustration, concept sketch, spot art, comic, etc.) reflects what you want to make for the zine.

Writers

  • A single page/folder/site/etc. where all examples can be found;

  • or simply link to relevant uploads on AO3/wherever you post.
    ( !! ONLY one shots, no multi-chapter! Make sure they're no longer than 3k words max!)

  • Provide examples of written work that reflect a finished state of what we can expect for the zine.

Misc

  • Make sure to include relevant examples that reflect what you'd contribute to the zine as a finished result (e.g. finished recipe, finished song, finished craft etc).

  • Make sure the linked example is available to be viewed without specialized accounts!

All of these project are for fun, there is no need for industry level skill.We ask for examples to get a feel for what we have to work with and what will be put into the zine. We do not expect every piece of art or writing to be made at a professional quality level.So, please do not feel discouraged: zines are a good challenge to try new things and improve!
